Historic Chattooga Church to Celebrate 175 Years PDF Print E-mail

In the southernmost end of Chattooga County a church that has witnessed much of the history of Chattooga County will be celebrating 175 years of ministry to the area. 

When Sardis Baptist Church in Chattoogaville was formed, Chattooga County didn't even exist.  It would be three years later before Chattooga County came into being after being cut out of Walker and Floyd Counties.  In fact, Sardis Baptist Church is older than the Southern Baptist Convention and the Georgia Baptist Convention and the Chattooga Baptist Association.

Members of the historic church are planning a week-long celebration next week to mark the milestone in the church's history, culminating with the unveiling of a plaque designating the church as part of the National Historic Registry.

Schedule of Activities at Sardis Baptist Church:

August 1st - Sunday Worship at 11 AM - Guest Speaker - Bobby Lee Cook

                       "A Special Place" - Sardis Baptist Church Choir at 6 PM

August 2nd - Monday evening at 7 PM - Guest Speaker - Rev. J.B. Cantrell

                        Music by Dry Valley Youth Choir

August 4th -  Wednesday evening at 7 PM - Guest Speaker - Rev. Sidney Dooley

                        Special Music - Charles Teague Family

August 6th -  Friday evening at 7 PM - Rev. Loy Fricks

                        Special Music - Fricks Family

August 8th -  Sunday Worship 11 AM - Homecoming

                        Guest Speaker - Dr. Michael Williams - Georgia Baptist Convention

                        Special Music - The Bailey Family
