A convicted sex offender living in Cherokee County, has been arrested on Murder charges - in connection with the slaying of a Dekalb County man over the weekend.

With the assistance of the Cherokee County Sheriff`s Office, Drug Task Force Agents, & State ABC Agents - on Tuesday, Dekalb County authorities, traveled to the County Road 786 home of 62 year old Wayne Thomas McMinn.

McMinn agreed to accompany law enforcement officials back to Ft Payne, where, following an interview he was taken into custody and charged with the murder of Rickey R. McCallie.

McCallie`s body was found Monday morning just after 8:00 - in the back yard of his residence - on County Road 188 in Dogtown.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the victim had been shot multiple times - the body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville for an autopsy.

According to information contained in a news release from Dekalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris it appeared the two men had been involved in an on-going dispute involving the alleged theft of several chickens - and it`s believed that the argument escalated into a shooting which took place sometime Saturday night.

McMinn is currently being held in the Dekalb County Detention Center without bond.

McMinn is a registered sex offender - having been convicted of Sodomy 2nd Degree, in August of 2004.
